Lakes Entrance and Metung

The Anglican Parish of Lakes Entrance and Metung is part of  the Diocese of Gippsland which is centred on the city of Sale approximately 100 kilometres west of Lakes Entrance.

Lakes Entrance is situated approximately  315 kilometres east of Melbourne, in the state of Victoria, Australia.  Metung is approximately 20 kilometres to the west of Lakes Entrance.  Both towns are situation on the picturesque Gippsland Lakes and are part of what is know as the Riviera of Victoria.  This is in the south east corner of Australia.  The main industries of the area are tourism, fishing and the supporting infrastructure.

The mission statement for our Parish is
Our mission is to encourage ourselves and all the people of the Lakes Entrance and Metung areas to become fully committed followers of Christ.
We seek to carry this out in a variety of ways as will be seen elsewhere on this site.

The Rector, or pastor of the Parish is Peter Chilver who came to the parish in 2005. 

The Chilver Family

Peter was born in Morwell Victoria and began his working life as a Plumber and Gasfitter. During his trade he also volunteered time along with his wife Michelle for a number of years with a newly initiated Palliative Care programme in Gippsland.  Later he was employed at Latrobe Regional Hospital as a Theatre Technician and studied part time to complete a Diploma in Professional Counseling.  He then took a position with Anglicare Gippsland, firstly as a Family Support Worker and Problem Gambling Counselor and then later Supervisor of that programme along with other responsibilities within the Agency. Throughout this time his work in the Anglican Church was increasing in a Lay capacity whilst he studied a BTh.
He continued theological studies at Trinity College Melbourne, after which he was appointed Minister-in-Charge of the Episcopal District of Rosedale.  Then he was appointed Assistant Priest at the Cathedral Parish of Sale (2 Days), and Priest-in-charge of the Episcopal District of Stratford containing four centres (4 days), up until recently he was the Anglican Chaplain at Fulham Correctional Centre for the past 2 ½ years.  Currently he enjoy being on the steering committee for Parish Based Initiatives between Anglicare and Parishes of the Gippsland Diocese.  Other interests include painting, camping and restoring clocks.
